Is there a speed limit on the lakes?

The regulations governing navigable waters are generally determined at state level. As some lakes in the Lusatian Lakeland are in Brandenburg while others are in Saxony, there are no uniform rules governing maximum speeds.

For Lake Senftenberg and the Brandenburg section of Lake Geierswalde, the speed limit for vessels and convoys is 12 km/h and for small craft (below 20m) it is 15 km/h. A speed limit of 7 km/h applies to all vessels within five metres of the shore.

On the section of Lake Geierswalde that lies within Saxony, vessels and convoys may not exceed 12km/h, and small vessels may not exceed 15km/h. In the areas near the shore’s edge (up to five metres from the shore), the maximum speed is 7km/h. In waters that are at least 100m away from the shore in every direction, the maximum speed for vessels and convoys is 15km/h and for small vessels 30km/h.

On Lake Bärwalde, the Saxon Navigation Ordinance also applies, with a maximum speed of 30 km/h for small craft and 15 km/h for convoys.

Pay attention to the buoys on the lakes and keep within the boundaries of the designated areas.
